Mr. Lowe began as an idea several years ago. I wanted to do a cartoon strip based on my teaching experience in the Mississippi Delta (see "The Story Behind Mr. Lowe"). I came to find, though, that I wasn't ready to laugh at it. When I was ready to try again, I drew about a month's worth of samples and sent them, along with a synopsis of the strip and descriptions of the characters, to a syndicate. A syndicate is a company that sells and distributes a comic strip. "Mr.Lowe" was syndicated by Creators Syndicate. For a list of syndicates and their submission guidelines, you can visit cagle.com, a site run by former National Cartoonist Society president Daryl Cagle. |
